2007-08 WUDC Judging Applications
Application to Judge
Hart House anticipates sending 2 people to judge at the Worlds University Debating Championship at Assumption University in Bangkok, Thailand from December 25/26, 2006 to January 4/5, 2007. (Exact dates are dependant upon available flights)
To be eligible to apply for one of these positions, individuals must:
- be U of T students
- be a current travelling member of the Hart House Debating Club
- meet the requirements laid in out in section III of the Worlds Transfer Document (performing service to the club, fundraising for Worlds – please note that new members who may not have been available over the summer to fundraise, may be exempted from the fundraising requirements)
Anyone wishing to represent Hart House as a judge must submit an application. The judge selection subcommittee will review all applications and select representatives. The criteria used shall include (but is not limited to):
- judging experience/ability
- debating experience/ability
- British parliamentary experience/ability
- quality of club/committee participation and service MSOffice
- potential future contributions to the club/committee
Applications must be made by email, and submitted to Jenifer Newcombe at jenifer.newcombe@utoronto.ca by midnight Monday October 8, 2007. All submissions will be kept confidential to the judge selection subcommittee.
Please include the following information in your application: Name, Email Address, Phone Number, HH Debating Club Membership Number, College and Year
In addition, briefly describe:
- your ability and experience in university-level competitive debates
- your ability and experience with judging inter-university competitive debates
- your familiarity / experience with British Parliamentary style debating
- your commitment to debating and any service to the HH Debating Club and HH Debates Committee
- why you want to attend Worlds and what you hope to get out of it
